Marathon Therapy

At Tailoring Therapy, we recognise that some relationships need focused, uninterrupted support, particularly when challenges feel urgent, complex, or stuck.

Marathon Therapy or Intensive Couples Therapy offers couples the opportunity to engage in relationship therapy in Perth over a condensed period of time.

Instead of weekly or fortnightly sessions, couples participate in therapy across two consecutive full days, allowing space to slow down, explore patterns in depth, and maintain therapeutic momentum.

Our aim is to provide a structured, confidential, and supportive environment where couples can gain clarity, understanding, and direction for their relationship.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION

Marathon Relationship Therapy typically takes place over two full days, with breaks built in throughout the day.

In these sessions, couples work closely with an experienced therapist to:

  • Understand recurring relationship patterns

  • Explore emotional responses and communication dynamics

  • Identify underlying needs, attachment themes, and relational triggers

  • Engage in guided therapeutic conversations that support insight and repair

  • Develop practical strategies to support change beyond the intensive

While the format is intensive, the work is paced carefully and tailored to each couple. The focus is not on “fixing everything,” but on creating clarity, safety, and a more solid foundation for moving forward.

Where Marathon Therapy takes place

Marathon Therapy in Perth can be offered:

  • At our clinic, or

  • In a private hotel setting, depending on suitability and availability

For some couples, a hotel-based intensive provides additional benefits, including increased privacy, reduced distractions, and greater focus. Being away from everyday environments can allow couples to stay immersed in the therapeutic process, with time between sessions to reflect, rest, or complete agreed tasks.

This option is discussed collaboratively to ensure it is appropriate and supportive

Challenges We Work On

  • Ongoing conflict or communication difficulties

  • Emotional distance or disconnection

  • Relationship crises or decision-making periods

  • Recovery after betrayal or breaches of trust

  • Patterns that have not shifted through weekly couples counselling

  • Major life transitions impacting the relationship

This form of intensive couples therapy is not suitable for every situation. Part of our role is to help determine whether this format, ongoing relationship therapy, or another approach is the best fit.
